HSK Pre-Test Preparation

As a test of general language proficiency, the HSK is not based on any particular textbook or course of study. Therefore candidates may refer to any textbook in preparing for the test. Nevertheless, it is important that all candidates familiarize themselves with the HSK Guide, which contains complete information about test taking, a sample test paper and answer key, accompanied by a cassette tape recording of the listening section of the sample test and a glossary of HSK vocabulary. To be admitted to the test center, every examinee will be required to present his/her examination pass and an official piece of identification such as a citizenship card, a passport or a residence permit bearing a recognizable photograph. Recording, photographic, or other devices, note paper,books, mobile phones and/or pagers are not permitted in the testing room.Candidates arriving five minutes late may be admitted to the testing room provided they do not disturb other examinees. Examinees arriving 5 to 35 minutes late may be admitted to attend the next tests. No extra testing time is to be allowed for late arrivals. Thirty-five minutes after the commencement of testing, candidates who have still not arrived to take the test will not be allowed to enter the examination room.

Important Points for the HSK

( l )Examinees should have the examination pass and official identification on the their desks and follow the instructions of the supervisor.

( 2 )HSK Basic is a 135 minute test. HSK Elementary-Intermediate is a 145 minute test, no rest during the period. The HSK Advanced test is 2 hours 35 minutes in length, having ten minutes rest after written test. No one may leave the testing room before the conclusionof the test.  In an exceptional situation, the supervisor may permit an examinee to leave early.

( 3 )Each section of the test has a time limit. During the time allowed for each section, examinees must work on that section only, and are not permitted to work beyond the time limit for the section. Examinees are also not permitted to turn to a section that has not been announced or go back to a previous section.

( 4 ) All test materials must be collected and examinees are not allowed to take them out of the test classrooms.

( 5 ) Examinees may be dismissed from the testing room or have their scores invalidated if they fail to abide by any of the testing regulations and instructions given by the test supervisor.              

( 6 ) Before answering the questions, examinees shall fill in the names spelled exactly as it is printed on the examinee’s entrance pass (including Chinese and English), the test version numbers, country/nationality codes, test center numbers, and mark on sex column. The test version number is in the top right-hand corner of the cover. The country codes are fixed codes for all tests. For example, Japan is “525″, France is “610″. The sequence number is the sequence number for registration. The test center numbers are the codes for the place of the test. The correspondent numbers shall be filled in the blank on the left side of every row. Then mark like this£Û¡ö£Ýon the right side of the correspondent numbers.

( 7 ) When answering questions, the correct answers shall be marked like this£Û¡ö£Ýfor the letters of the correct answers. Attentions for examinees: Because the test versions are read by photo electricity reading machine, the marks hall be made clear otherwise they can not be recognized. For reasons that examinees do not fill in answers and make marks according to regulations, and the scores are effected, examinees will be responsible for that.
